Troquinha - Swap

Eba, tanto eu quanto a Adriana recebemos nossas caixas com a troquinha bem rápido!
Yay! Both Adriana and I got our swap boxes really fast!

And now I can finally reveal what I made for her... :) She asked for a bed in "Shabby Chic" style, a style I have never done before. And she also said she loved folding screens... So, that's what I made! Doesn't this picture look like an authentic Victorian bedrom? :)

And here is the blurry picture I had published before next to focused one:

Next, just pictures. I made the bed from scratch, and the folding screen. The table (the structure itself) I already had, just did the painting and the skirting. The lamp and the crochet bedspread came in a lot I bought from Gayle & John Constable, from Canada. I thought they'd be a perfect match! The memories set I already had too.

I made a tutorial on how to make this folding screen. I posted it on DHB Club, a social network for miniature enthusiasts only. It's FREE, and to join it all you have to do is follow this link. There you can either register or link using your Facebook account. If you can't see the tutorial post right away, it's because your registration has to be approved. This will happen soon, and then you'll have full access. The need for approval is necessary to keep the community spammers-free.

Eu nunca consigo fazer 4 pernas cabriole iguais!!!
And here are the furniture pieces I got from Adriana. She made them all. Only the "sink" is from a collection by Planeta Deagostini. She had a duplicate and offered me one, which I gladly accepted. One of the taps got detached during transportation. But this is not a problem, as I was going to break that part apart and use them separately anyway. She's really talented! I can never manage to make all 4 cabriolet legs match!!!

E aí? - Wassup? :)

After I finish a major project in miniature, I dive so deep into it, that it usually takes me a while do "decompress" from that immersion before I can "dive" into another one. That's why I haven't posted much lately. But that does not mean, at all, that miniatures haven't been happening to me! :)

Obrigada Drora!!!
First, good news: I was the thrilled and happy winner of Drora's giveaway. Yay! :) As usual, thanks to our overzealous customs, it took a looooooong time for it to reach me, but thank goodness (and Drora's excellent and careful packing) it all arrived safe and sound. Yes, I got all the items in this picture! Wow!!! They are so adorable I'll have to place them in very special scenes. Thank you Drora!!!

The book on the "floor" is a printed one with all the psalms. Precious!
Did you notice the background of that picture? Well, I took some corrugated cardboard sheets I've been "collecting" - they usually come with some magazines to keep them from bending when they have some item with them - and I followed a tutorial on miniatures.about.com on how to make a background for your pictures. So I made this one... I already knew how to make the wall paneling, but there is a great tutorial on Dada's dollhouse blog on it. I won't show more pictures of it because you'll be seeing it very often here... :)

This is the back & bottom of the structure:

Surprisingly, it turned out very sturdy!

É a Adriana Oliveira. ;)
I do have many UFOs (UnFinished Objects) and NESOs (Not Even Started Objects) to tackle next (and for the next 20 years, it seems...), but even before I could pick one, I was contacted by a friend and miniaturist here in Brazil, Adriana Oliveira, for a one-to-one swap. Each one of us could choose more or less what we wanted, but it'll still be a surprise. I have just finished mine, but I cannot show you. You know, not to spoil her surprise! :) But I can and will show you some extreme close-ups and distorted pictures of what I did. If you can guess what I made for her, you'll earn the right to swap with me too, if you want! :D Don't worry, you can decide if you really want to after I reveal what I made for her, later on. But the guess has to be made now, on this post, ok? ;)

Troquinha internacional - Quarter Scale Swap

This time I decided to take on a challenge that really challenged me at SEVERAL levels:
1) Taking part in an international swap in an online group I belong to.
2) Make an 1:48th scale item in kind of mass production (each participant should make 16 of their item, which would later be redistributed to all participants)
3) Make a scene in 1:48th scale in a TUBE!...
4) Make a scene in a patriotic theme from another country. Well, why not? :)

Desafio vencido!!! :)

Those posed real challenges for the following reasons:
1) International shipping takes a long time, and anything from or to Brazil (especially TO) takes even longer, due to our customs. I rushed to finish my items way ahead of time and shipped them asap. I was among the last one to get my swap box - which I quite expected - and was late to finish the challenge. But I did my part for the swap on time and no one had to wait for me! Challenge conquered! :)
Todos os itens recebidos... Olha a minha mesinha na frente (embaixo)
All items from swap... Check my picnic table at the bottom

Desafio vencido!!! :)
2) I had never made any multiple items. All my minis are 'one of a kind', sort of speaking. I though I wouldn't be able to make it but... I did it!! Challenge conquered!! :)

Deu certo! Desafio vencido!!! :)
3) Everybody was using a salt box. Salt is sold in plastic bags here... Oatmeal boxes would be ok too, but that is sold in cardboard boxes or metal cans... I could make my own, but I decided to use a chips container. It's narrower and longer, but it worked fine. Challenge conquered!!! :)

Top floor, finished, waiting for swap items!

Estrutura completa montada e aberta.
Structure finished and opened.
Desafio vencido!!! :)
4) A foreign theme was not the real challenge. The real challenge was to come up with a way to make the structure look like a Firecracker (to celebrate the 4th of July - British members worked on it as a Jubilee theme) while still making it 'liveable'. I discovered a multicolored LED 'thingy' on ebay and it arrived just before the swap box. I used it and it really worked, it does look like fireworks when turned on! Challenge conquered!!! :)

Ok, chega de falar... Aqui estão as fotos das cenas. Espero que gostem!
Ok, nuff said... Here are the pictures of my challenge. I hope you enjoy them!
